Research project

Bioprocess Engineering from a Cellular Perspective

The BIOSCALE team aims to systematize scale-up in biotechnological processes, thereby enabling reduced development times, higher success rates, and improved process quality for scale-up procedures.

Within this team, I am responsible for the bioprocessing of microbial fermentations. Specifically, my goal is to develop an efficient and reliable chemostat process that allows for targeted variation of parameters and precise analysis of their effects on the transcriptome determined by next generation RNA-seq. It is particularly important to design the process in such a way that multiple changes of one or more parameters can be made during an ongoing process. This systematic approach is intended not only to contribute to improved scaling of biotechnological processes but also to accelerate microbial strain development towards novel products.
